    XP Pro retail

    Hi All,
I need to get hold of several copies of XP Pro retail (for a virtualisation project I'm working on). Does anyone know where I might be able to get such a thing?

    Regards...

    Tom

I can probalby send you 1, but the key has likely been abused. (I tend to install it everytime I need a dummy OS for a few weeks, and it auto-activates...)

As for when you can purchase it on the interwebs? I not be sure.

I shall begin my searchings and see what be returned.

Ahh matey, this project of yours be expense.

You can find some copies here, but they cost £101.71 EACH. I can't seem to find anything much cheaper than that to be honest. Then again I only used Google Shopping.

    Re: XP Pro retail

Nope that's an OEM license. I need retail copies. It looks like MS has EOLed the software and you can't get proper retail copies anywhere anymore.

I am also getting that impression. Licesing restrictions prevent you from using the OEM copies in your project?

Why must you use Windows XP for this project?

Buy into a MSDN subs or TechNet Sub, you get 10 activations then. Probably work out cheaper than buying them all.

I have 4 that were removed from Dell PC's. From experience they will re-validate over the phone.

Are you sure they are retail and not OEM? If they are OEM the licence agreement only permits them to be used on the machine with the licence sticker attached.

    Re: XP Pro retail

Buy sealed OEM copies - as long as you only ever install it on the one (virtual) machine you'll be operating within the license. Ebuyer sell a three pack of Windows XP Pro for ~ £300 (it's gone up a lot since I last had to buy it). I'm not sure how you stick the COA on the case of a virtual machine though - scan it and use it as a desktop background?

    Technet 15% off

Should be able to sue the valuation licence for what you want to do.

I may be off the mark, but it sounds distinctly like this is for use in a production environment. Technet would be fine for PoC, but isn't allowed for use in production.

    Hi All,
Yes this is for production use in a corporate environment. I have to use real retail licenses. In the end we managed to source 4 copies at around £250 each.
