    Business Application Advice needed

Ok, at work we currently use a package by Pegasus called Opera II, it's an all in one accountancy, stock control and customer management system. Trouble is, it's based on FoxPro and therefore is slow, clunky and prone to errors, only yesterday we were down for a whole day due to a corruption in a .FPT memo file.

Has anyone had any experience of similiar packages, such as SAP or Microsoft Dynamics to know how they compare? We're tempted by MS Dynamics atm because MS software tends to just work and most errors usually have a well documented solution.

How big is the company ?
SAP / Oracle are BIG solutions, Sage may be more practical (and cheaper !) for a SME.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

We're in an arkward place with regards to solutions like Sage, we're a small company (20 employees) but due to the nature of our products, we handle about 25,000 lines of stock, processing over 150,000 transaction lines a month.

Its a while since ive dealt with Opera or Sage (I used to wok for an accountants as their ITM and then one of their clients as ITM and have used both opera and sage) Sage doesnt just have options for sole traders it has a whole product line upto multi national. Sage 1000 may do what you need (http://www.sage.co.uk/software_and_s...000_suite.aspx) but it night be worth giving Sage a ring. Opera was pants back in 2000 we ended up putting all our machines (desktops) that used Opera on UPS's as it was so flaky and power was a tad flaky on our estate.

My wife's family business is about that size (gross turnover ~£1.3m), and it all runs on Sage 1000. Like MadAussie I'd give them a call. It has to be cheaper than SAP/Oracle.

    Re: Business Application Advice needed

Relatively recently we moved from a stock system I built using Access (wasn't brilliant but it got the job done) and bunch of word documents and spreadsheets, and some version of Sage to Dynamics AX.

There have been a lot of teething troubles, but then the whole system is a new concept for us. It's much more rigid than before, which is a good thing. Items can be locked after a certain stage of processing, we have user access levels and everything is auditable.

it wasn't cheap, and is probably bigger than we need it, but then we are expecting to grow into it. The next addon for it will probably be the HR/personnel management module.

Oh, and we can now easily do full job costings and analisys. I think the accountant is much happier with it.
