Sophos is good , but its not much of a Home user product IMO. AVG is good and free.

AVG Free edition on my PCs at home - we use Sophos here at work on our key servers, but Moby is right in that it's not really a home user product.

ah i c, remember downloading some software from their site to deal with a virus i had that norton couldnt deal with.
How do you find avg in comparison to norton?
My machines at home are either running AVG 6 or Avast!, both of which are free. Both do the job without a glitch.

Personally I would say there is little difference between the products except for the speed of the definition posting, I think the market leaders are normally fastest and this has recently been seen with some viruses.

find it slows me pc down a fair bit, also tends too crash on scans
the only problem I've found with AVG recently is that their update servers are busy - I have clients with the full version of AVg and that updates fine.

hmm strange that autoprotect is so intensive, is there anything in the logs about why it is crashing during scans?

I have AVG Free Edition and Norton 2003. AVG Free Edition is better.
I use Avast (another free one) and get people who's computers I sort to use it. Easy to setup and updates in the background or asks you first, depends what you want. Its great to setup and leave, as you wont go around somebodys place and find AC is 2 years out of date. Also it got rid of some problems on my parents PC that AVG missed. just installed in safe mode and schedules a full scan on boot.
