Win 7 - Temporary Internet Files

I used to do the following when I wanted to save a YouTube video:

    • Watch the video in question, and then ...
    • ... go to Tools / Internet Options / Browser History: Settings / View Files
    • the window that pops up, contained the video I was watching. I just copied and pasted it elsewhere.

This suddenly does not work anymore, because when I open that window, it does not contain the video I have watched anymore.

    What has changed ???

PS: hmm ... do you think that might have something to do with my new SSD ? It must be stored somehwere ... but where ??

Hi, may very well be related to your SSD, not sure about that but if your looking for a workaround have you considered FlashGot, or something simiar, you can use that to download the video files instead. There are many popular add-ons for firefox, and likewise IE which will allow you to save streaming video.

There's also KeepVid, which doesn't require anything to be installed.

Vista has the same sort of behaviour, I've never figured where the files go. Especially stuff like youtube videos and crap.

Sometimes the file is there, some time it isn't.

Re: Win 7 - Temporary Internet Files

    Hi, thanks for your replies.

I'm going to follow this up later, hopefully I'll find where Win 7 stores the temp files.
Have read somewhere that they're maybe stored in RAM only, but I'm not sure about that.

For the time being I've tried a download manager called HiDownload, ...

Have tried downloading a few videos and they appear to be 100% copies of the original source.
I mention that because with other ways of copying I noticed some kind of degradation, with KeepVid as well btw.
The download speed is impressive fast and HiDownload is even able to record streamings videos as well, but I have not tried that out yet.

And still have to figure how to download the HD version of a videoclip ...

Re: Win 7 - Temporary Internet Files

Hi thanks, but I have just discovered a free little tool called TubeBox!.

    Download here

Their website is in german, but you can change to english during the installation process.

It has a drop down menu where you can select between YouTube, MyVideo, ClipFish, MySpass, Metacafe, YouP*** and T***8.

Please try it out and let us know what you think ... seems rather cool:

By the way, the little videoclip highlighted in blue is my all time favourite.

The music is so cool and the person who filmed moves his camcorder between the hardware (2x HD4770 in crossfire) and two monitor screens, showing performance results and a demo with FPS of some random game.

Have contacted him and he was so kind to help me with that song called "Tricky Tricky" ... AWESOME !!

    • Download it ..
    • try it out ..
    • then tell us what you think !!

Re: Win 7 - Temporary Internet Files

Hi, someone over at sevenforums.com has posted the following:

It's part of the way you're protected now in IE.

There are programs out there that can help you browse where temporary files are stored, or you can go about it manually sort of like you used to.

    You need to:

    (1) Turn off protected mode in IE (on the Security tab).
    (2) In folder options, uncheck "Hide Protected Operating System Files." (You may need to show hidden files and folders as well.)
    (3) Your temporary internet files are now located in the folders at:

    %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

IECacheView is one program that should work if you prefer that route instead:

    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/ie_cache_viewer.html

Doing it manually, I can get up to "Temporary Internet Files", but I cannot find "Content.IE5".

Can someone check and confirmt that please ?

Re: Win 7 - Temporary Internet Files

Try this for HD on Youtube.

    http://www.sizlopedia.com/2008/12/20...videos-in-mp4/

Drag it into firefox bookmark bar and click when your on a HD video.

It takes up to a minute to work, but it works a charm =)

Re: Win 7 - Temporary Internet Files

Hi, I tried it and dragging the link didn't work for me (maybe a IE thing ?).
Anyway, I have tried out www.vid32.com which was mentioned in one of the comments there.

I tried that and was shocked to be presented with two links:

    • One for Low Quality,
    • and one for High Quality.

    AWESOME ... Thank You !!
