Have been wondering about this since I read the news..
The now dead "E" versions, allthough marketed by MS as upgrades, were basically full retail versions and it would have been possible to install without any XP/Vista media or license. One assumes that was against the EULA? Bending the rules or not aside, it seemed to be accepted as par for the course with even retailers joining in with "upgrade (FULL VERSION!) crap.. Anywho, Not really the point of this thread...
With MS now shipping the same version as the rest of the world. Will we still be getting that full retail in all but name version, or will it now become a bonefide upgrade with all the license restrictions etc and more importantly, the need to have some XP/Vista media and a key to validate during install?
Asking purely out of interest, 'cause there may well be quite a few unhappy/confused people out there come 22nd October.
Will the post offices be full of people with wooden legs and eye patches exerising their DSR rights on 23rd October, (before you even consider its software, so open it and your keeping it). Surely MS and Retailers need to make it clear to consumers what they're now actually getting after the madness of this E version (which everywhere is still selling). So far I havent seen or read anything at the usual places beyond "its the same version as the rest of the world" and that doesnt really give anything away.
