Missing RAM in Windows 7?? Help!!

    Hello!

Just finished installing an extra 6Gb of RAM into my Gaming PC for a total of 12Gb but for some reason Windows 7 System information says I only have 8.00Gb although CPU-Z is correctly identifying all 12...

    Has anyone had this problem?

I have already tried reseating the RAM, Restarting, going into the BIOS and crying for sympathy . Does anyone how to fix it?

My PC: Windows 7 Ultimate RC (7100)
    Asus P6T
    12Gb (6 x 2) Corsair DDR3
    Core 17 920
    2 x 320Gb Samsung HDD in RAID 0
    Xclio 1500w PSU
    Asus GTX 285

    Cheers

    Kirk

Re: Missing RAM in Windows 7?? Help!!

Maybe the RC only supports 8GB of RAM. I know certain versions only support X amount of RAM so this could be the issue.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    BIOS revision?
I assume you are running the 64-bit version, to be able to use more than 3GB too?

I ordered 2 Asus P6T systems with 6GB and 2x 6GB kits to fully populate them both - I found 1 of the 12 sticks was dodgy and had to RMA it (well, the whole kit of 3), but in my case the POST only reported 10GB installed (and Windows the same).

Edited output from CPU-Z on my rig:

Pretty much what I was going to say. If the BIOS recognises it and CPU-Z recognises it, it maybe stands to reason that te only thing stopping it is the OS. Vista Basic allows only 8GB, perhaps it's the same here. I guess, the only way to tell is an x64 Linux live CD to test, then maybe an install of the proper RTM version of Win7, which MS released a few days ago.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all the replies on this (only just discovered that I had managed to post the thread twice somehow!) the problem was just wierd. I re-seated everything, re-booted, I made sure the BIOS was up to date, cleaned out the DIMM slots with compressed air, nothing would work....

Except yesterday I turned it on & bam, it's now reading 12Gb? Going to keep an eye on it incase it starts going again but after 3 boots it's still showing 12Gb.

It's possible the system information is cached, like the experience index, and with all the things you did you fixed the issue, and now Windows finally has rescaned and said "oh hello, yousa has more RAM... mesa append system information."
