Windows 7 blac sreen on boot

    Hi all

downloaded windows 7 RC 32 and 64 bit versions.

I have dual booted the 32 bit one on my work pc and it is working fine :-) .

I took one of my drives into work and installed the 64 bit version on. Yer I know thats not ideal way of installing, in another PC but hey.....

Well I popped it in my home PC, booted and get a black screen. All I get is Winows RC and the build number in the bottom right.

I though I'd give it a reinstall as it only takes like 30 mins now :-) .

    Same again after a reinstall...............GGrrr !!

I have just read that 7 does not seem to like some monitors. That seems a tad strange. All accounts I have read said as soon as they used a monitor that 7 did like and installed graphics drivers it was fine on any display they could throw at it.

Now I have swapped out back to my vista drive but I'll be popping the 7 one back in later and trying it on my LCD TV to see if I boot into 7 fine.

All seems very odd to me. Why should an OS care what screen I have since it was fine at displaying all the installation screens without issue.

Well I'll post back with my findings later folks.

Plus for the record my screen is AOC and my work one is DELL.

A similar thing happens to me after standby - PC will turn on but monitor remains off. Takes about 3 power cycles to get it to display something again.

    K4p84,

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 RC Support Forum. It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads there for additional assistance.

I don't think it's the screen thing to be honest. Just a case of the computer being lazy and not sending the "turn on" signal to the PC.

Try powering off completely for like 30 secs. And try again.

I had the same sort of issue when installing Windows 7 yesterday, I installed it fine, but when it came to boot up for the first time my screen remained blank/powered down. Very strange. Just just turned everything off, and turned it back on 30 seconds later.

Also, how different is your work PC hardware to your home PC? That could be another factor.

But seriously, ive had it happen to me a few times and like Singh pointed out it just requires a shutdown a brief breaka nd a start up to get on track again - but your problem sounds like a whole different kettle of fish.

Re: Windows 7 blac sreen on boot

I have been having this problem with windows 7 x64 RC and RTM. In my case it is an ATI driver problem over DVI. If I unplug DVI cable and plug in again it comes on everything ok.

I'm actually going to have time to look at this today.

As for work PC vs home PC:

Work is a Dell Vostro 200, Intel C2D 2.0GHz, 2GB ram, everything else is onboard, nothing discrete been displayed on a dell 20" LCD

Home PC is Intel Q9550 @ 3.2, SLI GTX 280's, discrete sound, 2GB Ram, Blu ray, 2.5Tb storage, fully water cooled.
