    Firefox 3.5.2 & Windows 7

I have used firefox for years and have always sworn by it, but it is really frustrating me these days. Iv got the latest build of Windows 7 and firefox refuses to play nicely with it.

Firefox freezes on me a couple of times a day at random, it crashes totally randomly (especially around ebay) and it is usually just all round sluggish when more then one tab is open. I am constantly updating both firefox & windows 7, and despite having a few plugins that iv been using for years everything is standard.

Is anyone else having any problems?

I'm using Windows 7 RTM since it was released to technet and Firefox 3.5.2 and have had no problems so far. Have you tried disabling all of your addons and seeing if that has an effect?

No problems at all here (FF 3.5.2 running on Win7 RC1).

What extensions are you using? Have you tried deleting/recreating your user profile?

No problems here either though I don't have many active plug-ins / add-ons (just Flash and Java IIRC)

    Re: Firefox 3.5.2 & Windows 7

I had the same issue on Win7 and Firefox. I'm no using fresh installs of both - Firefox was certainly upgraded from earlier revisions, can't recall if Win7 was, and I don;t really have any issues now. 32bit FF on 64bit Win7.

    Re: Firefox 3.5.2 & Windows 7

I was having a fair few crashes with previous releases with that crash reporter showing up and it also happened a lot when I was organising bookmarks. It's also eating RAM for breakfast - after watching a few youtube videos for example it can, according to task manager, use over 400MB which isn't released until FF is closed. It could be intentional caching but surely 400MB is a bit much for a browser?

There is only one version of FF (32bit). Perhaps try a fresh installation would resolve your problem.

There are 64 bit testing versions but yeah for Windows there's only 32 really. Linux has a full 64 bit version.

Yes, you are right. These 'testing versions' are third party builds. Also, there is Mozilla 64 which is official.

    Re: Firefox 3.5.2 & Windows 7

I had this problem with my Windows 7 PC, particularly using Firefox... periodically the whole thing would freeze solid, the hard disk thrash for 30secs and then it'd be fine. It started after I upgraded from the Beta to the RC (unsupported for a good reason) and increased in regularity- now I have installed the RTM from scratch it is fine.

Always install from scratch me thinks...

+1 to that really. I forced an upgrade from RC -> RTM on two PCs and really (really) don't. To say it went horribly wrong is an understatement - turns out MS know what they're doing when they disable the upgrade
