Is it the same update being applied over and over? E.g. it appears in the list once, then you install the update, but it comes back in the list. Or are there loads of the same update listed in the available updates list?
If it's the first one then you can can probably just hide the update (open Windows Update and check for updates, it'll give you a list of available updates and you can chose to install/not install/hide them in here) rather than installing it over and over again. Not the most elegant solution I know, but it'll stop the notifications.
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.
Not much help kalniel, but I'm having the exact issue on Vista at the moment.
Virtual PC is the main culprit. It seems to want to install the same update, constantly most days, sometimes on the same day.
I've not really looked into it yet, but I'll be watching this thread with interest.
I'm having this problem too. I'm running Win 7 Pro (not the Beta/RC). It's really starting to bug me lol.
Same here - the games for windows live 3.0 update and Win 7. After seemingly endless updates, I right clicked, and went for the hide update option.
Having said that, I've not tried playing GTA IV since...
Just installed GfwL 3.0 myself, and I'm not seeing this issue.
Try removing GfwL from your system, and downloading the offline setup.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
I originally downloaded the installer in the past.
Anyway, it seems to have gone away by uninstalling all traces of GFWL, rebooting and then downloading and installing the latest version from MS. Seems to have been a bug in the way the update to existing versions went through (not surprised, given games sometimes wanted to update within game, and windows wanted to update on shutdown as well.)
