    Where'd Opera get bookmarks from?

I've just installed Opera to try it out since I've not used it for some time but strangely it populated itself with some bookmarks. I check through them and it's like a snapshot of my Firefox bookmarks from 2008 - even though I've only recently started using this computer and I copied Firefox bookmarks from my other PC. There was no Opera app data on the PC before the install so what on Earth happened? I could understand if it imported FF bookmarks as they are now but it's missing new ones and there are loads of bookmarks in there that I've deleted recently. Does FF keep a record of all the bookmarks you've ever had or something?

Re: Where'd Opera get bookmarks from?

Possibly picked up from the Registry?

I once installed an Alpha version of Opera (using the Classic Installer, so no MSI cr@p) in its own folder and it picked up the bookmarks from the older version.

When I installed FF, there was an option to import from IE but I don't use IE of course. Transmute put Opera's BMs in to FF in the correct order, but FF didn't get any itself.

Firefox apparently stopped using the bookmarks.html file at version 3, which was released on 17 June 2008.

Do you have a bookmarks.html file somewhere which Opera picked up on from when you were using FF2?

Not that I can think of. Like I said this is a new computer and all I did was copy over desktop/docs/pics/etc and app data for FF/Thunderbird and a few others. But even so it looks like bookmarks are from 08 but I started using this PC around the end of June.

Re: Where'd Opera get bookmarks from?

Just searched my computer and found a bookmarks.html file under Friefox's appdata - maybe a backup I made sometime and put it in the wrong place and it seems the bookmarks in it match those in Opera. I'll double check in a bit by installing again but I wonder why Opera would search Firefox's appdata when it normally doesn't contain anything useful?
