    OS changeover

    Alrite folks,

Quick Q, didn't know if this was the right place for it but here goes (correct me if im wrong).

I'll have windows 7 arriving tomorrow with my new processor, RAM & Mobo, and was wondering whether me copying steam and all my games over on my backup drive would work? I don't know if games and applications install themselves differently (currently on Vista 32bit will be getting Win7 64bit). i dont think it will work but if by some chance it does give me a shout

    Cheers

    Rawkus

to backup steam games you can use the inbuilt backup utility to back them up into one massive backup. to save your games saves copy your documents folder somewhere safe. you will need to reinstall your non steam games though

I've never had a problem with making flat file backups of the steamapps folder - i.e. install steam, then copy the steamapps folder over the new one in your steam folder.

This has always worked for me with non-steam games as well.
