    Video Calling/Messaging abroad.

I'll be in Japan in October and the plan is to do a couple of video calls/conferences back to the UK during a particular weekend with a friend back in the UK. What we will have is a laptop with a wireless internet dongle in the UK and a couple of laptops in Japan. We'll be on the move/go (in Japan) broadcasting back to our friend in the UK.

What's the easiest way to do this? My tiny tiny brain can only come up with using MSN and the video calling function in that; however how do I, in Japan, get a free or pre-paid internet dongle that will let me do what I want (ie have sufficient upstream bandwidth for a relatively smooth audio/visual transmission)?

Oh and any ideas on how we can stream live video feed from our laptop to a blog site? (If not, we can just record, compress and upload.)

    Hey sleepy

I think you need hosting for your webcam and then a script to embed it on a blog site. It might be easier to just record and upload to youtube because that will provide you with links to embed it and you can just copy and paste them into your blog.

    Re: Video Calling/Messaging abroad.

For the video conferencing Skype may be a good option, one of my friends uses this to talk to his parents that live abroad. I have no idea about mobile internet connections in Japan though...
I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

    Re: Video Calling/Messaging abroad.

Skype's geared up for doing this sort of thing pretty well. I use it to talk to my father since he lives abroad.
