Windows 7 Fever is in the air

Windows fever is in the air...? With news of Windows 7 selling out in Europe, and people pre-ordering likes it's going out of fashion. I must admit with the clock ticking away and the fact it's now 7 weeks to release date I'm finding myself getting excited.

Geeky... call it what you like, I don't think I have been excited about an operating system since Windows XP 8 years ago. In fact this is the eighth operating system I have purchased since I started using Windows as my main OS... Windows Vista I had for fee after taking part in beta testing Windows Vista which was fun. I couldn't take part in Windows 7 because I was too busy with work.

All I can say is thank god I pre-ordered mine because Microsoft have shelved the discount on Windows 7 now and it's at full price on their UK website. it was £199.00 now it's £229.00.

    I'm excited

Re: Windows 7 Fever is in the air

Currently on my copy of Win7 (business). It's ok, nothing special. They seem to have spent as much time moving options around and hiding them than doing anything productive. It's not slow and an upgrade from XP (I skipped Vista) but I can't say I'm overly excited.

Well when you are at home on the sick, "not sick, sick... I have a short term medical condition which is preventing me form working at the moment..." all you do is look at the internet or watch the TV, I can only take so much of Murder She Wrote and Diagnosis Murder...? Basically Windows 7 is everything Windows Vista should have been in the first place. I have said this to countless of people and they have all basically agreed with me.

    Yeah I am excited

I ahve been running Windows 7 since MSDN release and i can honestly say, its no more impressive than Vista if you have a quickish machine.

    Hype over nothing tbh.

I agree, it wakes up some laptops, but no change to PC, other than most softwares not working

In the same way that XP is what 2000 should have been, and 98 SE is what 98 and 95 should have been.

It's tweaking what was already there. It's not exactly earth shattering.

The only obvious thing which has changed under the hood is how scalable Win 7 is on lesser machines, and that wouldn't have happened at all if netbooks hadn't turned up. That's the only reason - MS wants to stop selling XP with netbooks. Had they not happened, it would be just the way it was with 2000 and XP and 95 and 98 - the same OS with just a few changes here and there.

The vast majority will see no difference between Vista and 7 other than a few GUI changes.

None of the above is a bad thing by the way - I've no problem with the tick-tock approach to Vista and 7 - I just, like most, get annoyed with how 7 is seen as Vista-made-good.

windows 7 still doesnt have support OOTB for my creative x-fi sound card or my realtek network card.
im glad it has finaly got trigger services.
still needs quite alot of reboots, needs defragging, you still need to update every software one by one so its still windows lol.

Well, file transfer is certainly much faster on my laptop with Windows 7 - oh wait, that's my new SSD!!

Seriously, Vista's file transfer problem was fixed back in SP1, so no one should be able to complain on that front. In other cases, Windows 7 feels snappier overall (on an HDD, compared with Vista on an HDD)

Well i still find it slow so it will be interesting to compare. Of course it could be a configuration / hardware issue?
