    Help! Windows XP not Installing

Hello everyone. I have just tried installing Windows XP on my computer. I have a hard drive partitioned into a data partition, an OS partition with Windows 7, and an empty partition. The first time I tried I deleted the windows 7 partition and replaced it with XP. After formatting the drive and copying the files the computer got stuck on the black screen with white text that comes on for a short while before rebooting (with a list of all the components the computer supports, e.g. USB 2.0 etc). I restarted many times but it still gets stuck. I have tried reinstalling XP many times as well, but it keeps getting stuck on that screen. Does anybody know what could be wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Varmint

Re: Help! Windows XP not Installing

You will get this a lot with Windows XP and newer hardware. You will probably find that you will have to use something like nlite and merge service pack 3 into the windows xp install so it can find newer hardware.

Remember Windows XP is something like 8 - 9 years old now and the lack of hardware support for newer hardware built in. Even the little Samsung NC10 needs the Windows XP CD with the service pack 3 integrated into the build with nlite.

It does seem that the nlite website has gone, or is down at the moment but if you go to www.downloads.com I think it is or CNET you will find the installer for the latest version which should help you with your build

I'm not sure if this would make any difference but Windows 7 creates a separate boot partition at the start of the drive - did you delete that as well as the OS partition?

Delete everthing so you can be sure its completely clean

CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Yeah, if you no longer have 7 on that PC that partition should be removed - your PC might be trying to use that to boot but since it leads to nowhere your the system hangs. I thought XP would modify the MBR itself to bypass the boot partition but obviously not.
