Question New Catalyst Driver Installation Help

    Hey All,

I've been having some problems trying to get a game to work (StarTrek - Starfleet Command III) and getting it to stop booting me back to the desktop.
I need to update my current 3.9 Cat (ati) driver to the latest ones, and apparantly they can be quite tricky to install/update correctly.
So apart from downloading the driver from the ati site and installing them is their anything else I need to do ?

    Cheers, Dave.

You sure that the problem is the Catalysts? There's a bug fix that you need to install if you are running DirectX9.

I would just uninstall the old drivers and stick the new ones on after a reboot, but some people use this: http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner

    but for the record:

Download the drivers in PARTS....youneed the Driver and the Control Panel....not the WDM capture unless you are an All In Wonder card person.

Gointo Add Remove Programs (in Windows Control Panel) and FIRST CLICK ON THE CONTROL PANEL....remove it.......and then DONT REBOOT...

Then do same in Add Remove Program for the ATI Driver.......and choose BOTH devices if they show.....remove...once again DONT REBOOT>

Then once done, go backto Desktop...ame sure its all finished...THEN REBOOT

Then when its started back up.....

Double Click on the DRIVER package and let it install........DONT REBOOT when it says its wants to....

Then Double Click on the CONTROL PANEL package andlet it install....DONT REBOOT>

then back to desk top...wait tomake sure nothing else is happening....THEN REBOOT>

When it reboots, BE PATIENT..it will flicker and maybe even go BLACK for a while....keep calm

Then Disable the icons you dont need and most people go into the Display Properties and turn OFF the propritry ATI Overclock protection (VPU?....cant remember sits name)

    there ya go....ta daaaaaa

a few bods have downloaded the entire package, installed them and had a problem where the wdm drivers have "attached" themselves even tho its not a card that supports them.....and frankly whats the point of having them there if you dont need them....no point sadly.

    So....for me....its always been a case of using the 2 I need...

It seems to work a treat everytime with no glitchs.....have sent new cards to both Tumble and Luke313 whoboth had different cards and no ATI driver experience...and both sailed through in one hit.

Its always personal choice tho matey
