    Media streaming in Win7

Why is media streaming in Windows 7 so bad, am I missing something?

I can get it working fine under Vista, my Denon AV amp and Xbox 360 can easily identify and connect to the Vista machine. But with Windows 7 - the OS can see the Denon amp and the Xbox, and you can set permissions to connect - except the devices can't see the Win 7 machine.

Anyone else having fun with this?

RC - can we expect greater things in the final release?

    Re: Media streaming in Win7

I am running the RC (7100) on my primary PC, when my son powers up his Xbox 360 I get a notification of an extender and then I have to go through a process of entering a number on my PC that relates to the extender, after that its plain sailing. I can then watch just about anything thats on my PC on the 360, its a transcode which for me is not ideal but I can easily watch divx, xvid, wmv-hd etc. If your PC doesnt detect the 360 on the same network then it may be that ur 360 isnt setup to action as an extender, not sure why tho cos I didnt need to do anything to my sons 360 to get it to detect

If thats not what u meant by streaming, i.e via Media Center and an extender, then if your are having problems with SMB shares there is a known issue with part of the MSN live install, it installs a service that stops/interferes SMB access which is easily corrected by uninstalling that component. If thats the case let mer know and I will update this with what u need to uninstall as Im at work and cannot remember it off the top of my head

Useful info there - I'll have to let you know as I've had to send the server's motherboard back for replacement. (One of the LAN sockets is not working)

I don't know about media streaming but the RTM version is defiantely better than the RC. Still has a few niggles though. I expect them to get resolved some time around the end of this year after the general public have used it for a bit.
