is it illegal to download Microsoft Office 2007? i've already purchased the actual thing. still got the case and everything, got the code and stuff.. just don't have the disc anymore (can't find it ANYWHERE )
so.. is it illegal to download a copy and use my code to install it?

    Re: is it illegal to...?

    Yes it probably is

Anyway - would you trust something you got from a torrent site?
Plus, no doubt the SKU that is torrented will be a volume licence copy - so your retail key won't work anyways!

Best to call Microsoft. They'll sell you a new media kit for about £15.

    Re: is it illegal to...?

There are lots of legal intricacies with this kind of thing. Yes it is, but we can all see why you would have to ask.

I agree with above, speak to MS about it.

    Re: is it illegal to...?

Can't see a problem as long as you have your original key.

Anyway, where is the cheapest place to buy 'Office 2007'? Ta

    Re: is it illegal to...?

Ah, don't speak to MS. Just download the torrent, put your key in, and care not for any of that rule or law or whatever stuff. You've not paid for the data or the disc, you've paid for your license to install and use Office, so I really don't see what MS have to complain about if you source your installer from something other than the disc they gave you.

    Re: is it illegal to...?

MS only care if you are properly licenced. Media isnt really an issue. I have personally been told to use any available media to reinstall a machine (no install CD but had valid code).
Phoned them up and asked best way to get cd. Got told "do you have a cd for another machine?". End result is so long as you have valid code the media is irrelevent.

As for torrents? Google the MD5's for the msdn isos and then check whatever iso u pull down. Dont bother with any REBUILD or any bundled ones. Just look for MSDN ones or go find a mate with a CD.

    Re: is it illegal to...?

Can I ask it is Home Student ? If so you can legally download the 60 day version from MS and then bang in your code and off you go. Thats how we are able to sell it to people with Netbooks at work, they buy the installation media, then go home, download it and then use the code off the media and it works fine
