Just been looking at this: the only solution I could find to UAC's annoying amnesia when it comes to previously run programs.
Has anyone used it? Is there an alternative? [Norton's UAC Tool is not Win7 ready yet]
My only concern is that it is from a small-time Russian company, with a questionable track history..
Well... it's your PC at the end of the day, but if I'm honest I rarely see a UAC prompt, and when I do it's usually an expected one as I'm writing to a system location. Would I touch that? Not with yours...
What are you running that gives you prompts all the time?

Agreed, UAC is a godsend, it was something badly needed in the Windows world.
on a work application I must confess to editing the properties on the shortcut so it always ran as admin..
But at least that attack vector was just one tiny little bespoke application, which the only people who probably knew how to exploit it, had DBO on the main databases anyway....
eitherway, it did make me worry a bit every time.
The thing is, prompting each time I open that app is OK, i often run apps as different users even on my day to day browsing.

UAC on vista I can understand, UAC on Win7 hasn't been a problem for me at all, I keep doing things expecting a UAC prompt and not getting them. Granted there isn't much installed on this new netbook anyway, but it is a lot slicker than I was expecting.
In a practical sense, yes. In an ideological sense, all software should be made properly and simply running it should work as a restricted user. All user accounts should just be restricted without the ability to elevate.
But much like my rant about badly configured mail systems, the OS maker jumps through hoops because incompetent developers can't be bothered to (or are incapable of knowing how to) follow Microsoft best practice programming guidelines.
I think the problem with most developers I have been unfortunate enough to deal with is that you can't just ask them to create something. You have to tell them how to code it as well.

So... how often do you run CPU-Z? Every 10 minutes? And why have CCleaner run *every* time you start the PC? I find a scan once a month or so clears out all I need.
I don't think i've ever had a UAC popup for CPUz in win7, then again, i cant remember the last time i had a UAC popup in 7...blah blah user error etc.

At the moment, I am running CPU-Z constantly as I am testing an overclock. Ditto realtemp.
I have always had crap cleaner run at startup - I like the privacy and resent defragmenting temp files.
Rivatuner is also needed on every boot.
edit: also HD tune on every boot.
I would simply like Win7 to remember trusted programs.

I find UAC most annoying when opening large exe files. I hate when you download, for example, a demo for a game and it comes as a 2gb exe file. It takes about 20 minutes for it to actually open because the UAC is checking it over or something. Very frustrating, especially when you can't tell if there's something up with it or if it's just the UAC.
