Re: How do I find out

If it'll run Vista it'll almost certainly run 7, particularly as 7 is better optimised for low end machines.

However, is the performance of Vista particularly poor on that machine? I doubt there'd be much benefit in upgrading unless that was the case.

Re: How do I find out

Performace is A-OK, Apart from file copying. But I'd like it for the simplified homenetworking, file sharing etc. It would also be nice to have both machines on the same OS.
But will it make the transition from 32 bit to 64, with that hardware ?

Re: How do I find out

Even better, all you need to check is of the CPU is capable of running 64 bit code.

    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=30786&code=T5250

Ark is a cracking place for checking this and the intel website shows that the CPU does support the intel 64 and as such 64-bit operating systems should run fine

That's exactly what I was looking for. I imagine that any issues would come from the Mobo and other drivers...

Re: How do I find out

I'm intrigued - how often does that laptop BSOD on vista? Both the laptops I had running Vista on 965 express crashed at least once a day when coming out of lock / screensaver...

Re: How do I find out

    Hardly ever.
I've had one major (unexplained) crash which forced a recovery from the rescue partition, and a couple of hiccoughs, but no BSODs. I will probably do a complete wipe and reinstall with W7 32 bit, to avoid driver issues on the old hardware.
