    7 Upgrade License Questions

I wanted to clear up a few things about the 7 upgrade license:
    1. Can it be installed on a system that currently has an OEM license OS installed.
    2. If it was, could the upgrade later be moved to another system as long as the previous upgraded system was reverted back to the previous OS?
    3. Does an OS need to be installed in the first place or will just the key from the other install do?
    4. Also, now talking about the student £30 offer, is the download supplied as an iso to create a DVD like what you'd get in the box or is it an installer (which wouldn't allow an install on an empt HDD, obviously).

I've never used an upgrade license install before so I don't know how the process goes.

    1) Yes. You can install another licence over the top of the orignal OEM licence.

2)Depends on what licence you purchase and it's terms.
OEM - No, it would be married to that machine
Retail - Yes, it can move
    VL, Yes
Student offer - no idea - read the licence terms!

    3) OS requires to be installed

    4) Not sure how the download is offered. Proabably an ISO to be burned/ installed.

Thanks for clearing things up. I've read through the terms but I couldn't find much on whether it could be moved. As an example scenario:
Computer A has Windows Vista OEM version installed ATM and will be upgraded to Windows 7 using the upgrade license. In the future, would it be possible to revert computer A back to Vista (IE by reformatting with the Vista media) and instead use the upgrade to Windows 7 on computer B?

    Re: 7 Upgrade License Questions

Computer A could be reinstalled with the Vista licence

The windows 7 upgrade could be moved so long as it was moving to a machine with a qualifying current OS. MS should provide you with a PUR (Product Use Rights) that should explain these sorts of scenarios.

    Watercooled,

Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here socialdottechnetdotmicrosoftdotcom/Forums/en-US/category/w7itpro/ (Replace the "dot" with a period ".") . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the thread available there for additional assistance and feedback.
