How to stop Win Update updating CCC?

Does anyone know how I can prevent automatic updates from updating CCC? It's annoying because I was browsing the web when an update confirmation box (I have it set to notify before downloading) popped up asking if it was OK to download an update so I clicked OK thinking it was just another Defender update or something then a bit later the screen flashed to low resolution then back to normal except all my desktop icons were messed up out of the groups I had them in. I though fair enough it's updated CCC to this month's version until I realised it's the 1st so I went and checked and it had installed 9.7!!! I already had 9.9 installed so I don't see the point in this. On a side note, when I update GPU drivers it messes with desktop icons because of the way it refreshes the screen or whatever but it's a pain getting my icons back where they were (I have loads of them in groups) after the update - is there a way to keep them where they are?
    Thanks!

Yes, check which updates are going to be applied before blindly clicking 'Ok'.

Yeah I know I should really (It's one of the reasons I disabled auto update in the first place) but it's a pain checking nearly every day only to find it's another Defender update. I thought there might have been a way to remove it from the list of things to update...

Well you switch auto update to alert me but don't download and install updates that way every so often (once a month) you can choose what to get - also it doesn't usually offer software updates anyway.

Yeah that's what I have it on anyway but like I said it popped up to ask me and I accepted thinking it was just a definition update. As I said I thought there might have been a way to remove CCC from the list of things auto updates updates.

Re: How to stop Win Update updating CCC?

It shouldn't auto update - it's an optional update rather than critical. My computer only automatically applies critical updates (which includes defender definitions I think). It should also be able to download/install said updates without needing to pop up a message.

As for grouping icons, there's a free tool from Stardock I think that allows you to do that.
