I'm just wondering how big the Home install of Windows 7 is looking to be. I'm ordering a SSD drive and want to get an idea as to how much space the o/s and my apps are going to use
Thanks.

On my netbook with W7 and full Office Ultimate 2007 with everything installed it takes up about 17GB. The only other things I have installed on here is Opera 10 and Skype.
Ah brilliant thanks.
So it is similar to Vista?
I'm planning on getting the 80gb Intel so hopefully it will suffice.
fairly.
best you search for other threads though, this discussion has been had at least a million times![]()
Ok Thanks![]()
As it happens, I have an absolutely clean install of Win7 Ultimate, public RC, 64-bit, sitting here and the ONLY things done to it are a couple of minor settings changes. Nothing has been installed after the OS was installed.
Size is 14GB. Or to be more accurate, 15,097,979,920 bytes. Obviously, it'll vary a bit according to hardware detected, drivers loaded etc, and that was Ultimate, but it should give a pretty close idea for W7 Ultimate.
That's a good point, this is Ultimate as well.
My Win7 Pro x64 (VL) clocks at 11.6GB (Windows + Program Files (Both) + Users)
Got nothing on it but all patched.

My 7 RC installation is around 16GB with apps etc. Note the 32-bit version should occupy a fair bit less space then the 64-bit one, but I can't see that being used except on older PCs/netbooks.
Bear in mind that the size of your pagefile and hibernation file relates to how much memory you have (to point out the obvious but you never know) so increases the overall footprint considerably.
whereabouts can you buy Win 7 before the arbitrary MS "release date"?
You can't - that's why it's called a "release" dateAnd given that Microsoft wrote and own the code for Windows 7, I'd hardly call their release date arbitrary - other than in the strictest sense that the date itself has no other signficance (afaik).
The finished product is made available earlier to certain MSDN subscription & volume license holders, and afaict most Hexusites (those who don't have the appropriate subscriptions, anyway) have got some combination of the public Beta and the Release Candidate running in their setup (I've got the RC x64 on my gaming machine and the RC x86 on my HTPC. Why the x86? a) I only have 2GB RAM so don't *need* the 64bit, and b) to see if there were any noticable differences from the x64, of course(there aren't)).
Otherwise you're just going but if you don't alrfeady have the beta / RC, you're just going to have to wait for October 22nd, I'm afraid...
I'm guessing people have downloaded the RTM version from MSDN/Technet...
Edit: beaten to it...
