    Multiple Windows 7 installs/activations?

Hi, juts got my Windows 7 home premium through the door today and cant wait to get it up and running on my system.

This may be a stupid question but I thought it would be best if i checked first on the number of times i can install the OS. Obviously there is only going to be one install per machine but i intend to build myself a new system after xmas. Will i then be able to install win 7 on my new system as long as i uninstalled it from my old pc?

I dont want to activate 7 on my current pc if i only intend to keep it for a few months.

Provided you have a ligimate reason for the change, you should be able to do a "Phone Activation" if the second Activation fails.

    Re: Multiple Windows 7 installs/activations?

I can think of a couple of solutions for you:

    1. Install the Windows 7 RC (Expire in March 2010)
    2. Install Windows 7 without activating (Works for 30 Days)
    3. Install Windows 2008 R2 trial. It is Windows 7 with a server capability, the trial version last for 180 days.
    4. When you get a brand new system, keep your old one, so just buy yourself another copy of Windows 7 for the new system.

Presumably you got the retail one, since pre-orders have been coming today. If so then you can install it an unlimited number of times - you just have to uninstall it from your old PC each time.

Yeah as long as it is a retail copy and not OEM.

yeah it is a retail. Finding it a nightmare to get hold of the RC though. I did download it when it was available but cant seem to find it on my system.

Have a search around - there is a command that lets you reset the 30 days twice giving you 90 days before the need to activate ... can't remember where i saw it, but google is your friend
