    Free Vista to 7 Upgrade

During the last few months of Vista sales, I was aware that PCs were being sold with the promise of a free upgrade to 7 when the time came.

I got a laptop from work at around that point, and have discovered that HP haven't included that particular model of laptop on the free upgrade offer. I thought it was a Microsoft based thing to encourage take-up of Vista through the latter stages of sales, so why is it that only certain models are permitted?

It's a bit annoying really - I don't see why this shouldn't be included in the offer, although clearly HP have their reasons.

That's the problem, it's up to the company (HP, advent, et al), not MS to decide how they implement the offer, which can often leave buyers feeling disgruntled.

    Dell's 'free' upgrade carries a £15 p+p charge.

Well, CDs do weigh a lot to be fair.
