    Ubuntu - what apps do you need to install in addition?

    Just being curious here.
    For me, i need skype (and have found that the 8.10 version works fine on 9.10), thunderbird, banshee, Adobe flash and the mp3/avi gstreamer codecs (ok, not really an app).

    What do you guys find to be a really essential extra?

    It allows you to monitor various sensors in your system so you can keep an eye on temps, fan speeds, all sorts of useless stuff.

    Various codecs for videos, download manager (forget the name), XBMC and flash... although i always have issues getting the 64bit version of flash to actually work

    *restricted-extras, xchat, wine, vim*, skype, numerous development packages ('quickly' is a dead handy package group), and google-earth is always lots of fun.

    Personally i had to add....

    VLC/Vuze/Evince/Handbrake/Songbird/Kino/wine/Scribus/Audacious all come to mind. Ton of other codecs etc.
