Advice for coverting Windows 7 TV files.

    Hey guys,

I'm not sure what tools I can use for WTV files produced by Windows 7 Media Center to convert them into something more respectiable like H264/ACC MP4s of H264/AC3 MKVs.

I'm not sure what tools support WTV files produced by Windows 7 Media Center. The reason being is there are a couple of Macs in the house and I'd like to convert my recorded TV programs to a universal format.

Has anyone has any expereince transcoding WTV from Windows 7 Media Center?

    Thanks.

Right click on the file and it lets you convert the file to a DVR-MS, which is obviously supported by many transcoding apps.

I personally do that, then use VideoRedo TV Suite to chop the file how I want it, save as another DVD-MS file, then if I want to convert to another format I use Handbrake to make it into a H264 MKV - I used to use AutoMKV, but it has random blue-screen issues when using the H264 encoder for many - me included when I upgraded to Win 7, and Handbrake is much faster at encoding H264 anyway.

Thanks Gav. I'll check that out when I finally get WMC up and running tonight.
