arrghh.. how do you reason with Mac users!

I'm just kind of sick of this.. and needed somewhere to rant..

Mac fanboys in biochem labs are everywhere now.. its like a plague..

Even my boss is a Mac fan, a new one I should say.. Now 40% of my lab are Mac users..

Fair deal, I like the Mac simplistic interface as well.. but gosh can the lab Mac users habit get any foul smelling than this..

Its like a chain of never ending repeating prerecorded counter rant about how bad windows is or how unfriendly our redhat host is whenever they are supposedly forced to used these systems.... and lunchtime while collecting laughing at windows users with their dell/asus/vaio laptops (which ironically, other than browsing the internet, and a couple of things written in broken perl... none of the proper work-not-dic*ing-around softwares is written for Mac, and is now all Win Server and Linux hosted)

'Blluueeghhhg... windows *****, sorry yen but Mac is way better.. ***** to be you Yen *by the way its referring me.*'

'We should write a letter to Apple and ask them to write these softwares in Mac, so we can rid of all the windows/linux machine forever...'

'Linux is like a Mac stripped useless'

On and on and on and on.... every f****** day...

My desk has been surrounded by avid, newly recruited Mac lovers... if you guys want windows and linux admin people to butter you up just because you own a Mac.. THEN DO IT AT HOME with your kids!! Infect them with your propaganda... stop doing it in the labs!

LOL I get the same thing. I don't mind macs at all, but I don't know why so many science users feel the need to bang on about them all the time. It's not like they should have to convince themselves of the merits.

It's the same thing with vegans and climate change weirdo's, it takes over their life in a bad way, sort of like Jehovah witnesses, expect you don't have a door to slam in their face. I am a big boy and can make up my mind about things doing my own research.

Re: arrghh.. how do you reason with Mac users!

i use all three at home and i have to admit i prefer using OSX the most. Thing is as good as the os is over the space of 2 years i have had screen, keyboard, trackpad, top surround for kb + tp and dvd drive changed. Plus on top of that I have gone through like 5 of the mag safe power supplies.

There is loads of **** which doesnt work nearly as well in Mac as it does in linux or windows... and there is the same for the reverse, everything has its use. If they are all fresh Elitis.. i mean mac users and they genuinely know their stuff about computers then just give them time they will come to realize it eventually.

Re: arrghh.. how do you reason with Mac users!

I never had any issues with Mac, and I do realise that molecular modelling engines work better in Macs than in Windows..

I'm just sick of Apple fans trying to brain wash the rest of the world... Its a good product, they are happy, I am happy, but please leave their excitement to themselves and respect other people's work..

Re: arrghh.. how do you reason with Mac users!

You could point out that the underlying operating system of their Mac (Open BSD) is very similar to the underlying OS of your Red Hat servers. (Linux)

(And I know it was a rant - and some (not all) Mac users can be insufferably smug - but... pretty please! )

Re: arrghh.. how do you reason with Mac users!

    hehe... will tone down..

yes I do realise its not every Mac user as my sister is perfectly reasonable..

On a side note, they do know linux is using the same underlying infra.. but some just refuse to accept it and just brands linux as a stripped useless version ala first post..

I'll rub off my anger for now!

Re: arrghh.. how do you reason with Mac users!

mac users are annoying I agree. I did meet one sane mac user thou. he uses Linux as well.
apple customers are so stupid. they buy stuff from apple it breaks alot earlier than other products but they buy the next product from apple and it does the same thing?

I wish apple would tell me why they think macs are better than pc's?
for once why cant apple tell me their USP?

    Mac users like macs.

Heavy game players like graphics cards that with a picture of a bloke/lass with an unusable sword and some kind of urination reference.

Because when you part with so much cash you have to justify it to yourself over and over again and try to convert as many people as possible to buy similar things so you feel vindicated...?

A smugquake today broke out, measuring six point eight on the Mac scale.

Its psychological, they are reasurring themselves that the extortionate amount of money they shelled out to get a Mac was justified.

Edit: Pollaxe beat me to it buy 2min... but yeah same as what he said.
