Well I dont really know, I would of thought logically tho there would be some sort of CPUID table in the BIOS so that said BIOS knew what the CPU was, ie 0101 points to table 1 item 1, "AMD Athlon x2 4200" for instance, now if you were to edit the table so that 0101 reads "Trig's Uber CPU" instead that'd sort it.
Having never done anything like this I wouldnt have a clue as to what editor to use and everything I've said is completely guessed, its just logically how I would expect it to work, simplified.

Also if he sells it with Windows 7 RC installed then he is short-changing the intended recipient as their computer will be rendered unusable in March.

Since you're asking about selling a computer on another thread, I'm assuming this could be the same computer in which case changing any of the specs listed in order to make more money is illegal ie false advertising.
