Re: install xp using usb flash drive

wintoflash allows transfering windows xp to flash drive ready to install.

edit:well the text section was successful once i interfgrated the sata drivers.

the second part of the install (GUI) doesnt seem to want to load. atm its just a blank screen. im gonna leave it for now just incase its just slow at loading.

im only ever gonna install XP via a flash drive if i dont have any other options its a pain in the ass.

anyone have any ideas on how to process?

btw some discs work perfectly on this computer for example ubuntu 9.10,image for linux etc.

i tryed installing windows 7 but at the partitioning stage it says: cant install to this hard drive because the hard drive may not support booting from the hard drive, ensure this discs controller is enabled in the bios...

i tryed using dban to wipe the hard drive but it said stopped with non fatal errors this is normally caused by a disc with bad sectors.

so im currently downloading fedora and gonna check the smart status of the hard drive.

Re: install xp using usb flash drive

partitions can be created but the hard drive wont boot any operating system.

windows 7 tells me that the hard drive might not support booting so check the controller is enabled in the bios.

ubuntu creates partitons and tells me to reboot and take out disc but doesnt boot after.

fedora tells me it cannot mount SDA as /boot

windows xp text section works if booted from usb stick but gui section doesnt work just get a blank screen.

any one know what might be causing this?

If you (obviously) ignore the specific driver advice, there's a lot of help on this subject over at the Acer AspireOne user forums; threads such as:

    Hope that helps.

Re: install xp using usb flash drive

    Edit:
turns out its a faulty hard drive.
I took out the hard drive and the bios was instant instead of taking 5mins and the windows xp disc launched perfectly.
time to order a new hard drive from Scan.
