Buy a USB stick (you can get 2GB sticks for £5) and make a bootable USB drive with the BIOS on.

Search for "hp usb boot utility" to download the tool that formats and makes the key bootable.

Re: MS DOS for New laptop to update BIOS

Same error occurs with some compaq machines when the boot CD isn't created from the official bios image disk for that model.

Did your bios download come in ISO format?

Re: MS DOS for New laptop to update BIOS

I'm not convinced it will help. Sounds like a power issue? Are the external drives powered from a external source? Could be the draw on the USB ports is to much from both HDD's.

doskey is a DOS application that retrieves previous command lines. Hold down shift on bootup to bypass processing of config.sys and autoexec.bat and try that.

Re: MS DOS for New laptop to update BIOS

Did you see my post? Are there issues if you copy to your internal drive and then unplug the first external and plug in the other?
