another anti-virus thread...

this time it's not a poll about which everyone believes to be the best.. but more of a request for a decent AV that won't make online gameplay almost impossible. whenever i have Kaspersky AV running while playing an online game my connection quality is awful and my "ping" is always 150+ instead of the usual 30 - 40..

so.. does anyone know of any AV programs that are really good for online gaming?

preferably with a "trial period" to give it a try first

Windows Security Essentials. It's fast, lightweight, and as far as I can tell, it has a good positive hit ratio. Oh, and free.

You can configure Kaspersky to not scan the network traffic of specific applications. Might improve things.

I think there's a setting for changing the method of scanning as well that's supposed to speed things up but it's been a while since I last used it and I can't remember what it's called (assuming it's still there).

F-Secure doesnt seem to affect ping.
if you decide to buy after the trial period amazon has better prices than the f-secure store.

it provides fantastic protection.

i use nod32 but it is a tad expensive. I also use Kapersky 2009/10 for other peoples installs as its so cheap from scan for x3 users.

As far as I'm aware Norton Internet Security 2010 is the best for speed and is a pretty decent security suite too. In the past Norton was massive bloatware but they really turned it round last year and this version is faster than ever, you can get a 3 user license for 25 on amazon or single licenses for around 14-15 on scan/ebuyer, OEM though.

I still wouldn't trust symantec even if they figured out a way to give you more computer resources than you actually have.
