    Activating Windows

I'm really busy at work so haven't spent too long looking to see if this question has been asked/answered before. If it has, please link and I'll be full of remorse for a suitable period!

My issue is thus: I've installed Win7 Home Premium x64 on my new HTPC build. Everything works fine so far ...BUT... my Linksys WMP54G v4 PCI wifi card does not have any 64bit drivers either via windows update or Linksys themselves. (Their customers are not happy about this unsurprisingly!)

Also reading elsewhere some codec packs/addons don't have 64bit versions so It's looking more likely I'll have to install the 32bit flavour of Win7 instead. (which does have [badly working] Linksys drivers available apparently.)

So my burning question is this: If I activate my retail copy of Win7 in 32bit form, can I at a later date install Win7 64bit and activate it using my original product key? Or does the first activation tie me to that version (32bit/64bit)?

I generally advise people to leave activation until the very last day; That way you can ensure your system is fairly stable before activating.

I concur. Of course even if you do screw something up and are forced to do something drastic (like reinstall Windows) then activating again is generally as easy as a phone call and entering numbers and letters.

The really smart people will install everything, activate and then use something like Acronis TrueImage to make an image of the activated install. Then if anything screws up you can easily reimage back to what you had before and it's still activated.

The really, really smart people don't bother activating until they absolutely have to. slmgr -rearm on the 30th day.
