Free software to show folder disk usage

I'm having a few issues with certain users unwittingly using up masses of space with their documents folder, and wondered if anybody knew of any free software - for corporate/educational use - that I could use to gauge the situation.

It would be a nightmare to click through each folder and its properties to pinpoint where the problem is coming from, but all the software I've found so far is only free for personal use.

I use WinDirStat. The website doesn't mention any free for personal use only, so I'm guessing its fine for everyone.

I use FreeCommander as my general explorer program.

View folder sizes by pressing Alt+F9

Licence says free for personal or proffessional use, only selling for profit is prohibited.

    Hope this helps

JDiskReport doesn't mention any such terms in the license either.

Brilliant, thanks for those links - I've just got to go and do some setting up so I'll check them all out later and issue relevant thanks.

Yeah I tried that earlier until I saw the license, at which point I removed it. Was exactly what I needed, apart from that minor detail

Well, most are free for personal use but not for corporate/educational.

    Here's another that I found: http://foldersize.sourceforge.net

It's not as detailed as SizeExplorer though.

Re: Free software to show folder disk usage

ExplorerXP is a file manager that gives folder sizes. I usually use PowerDesk, but keep EXP just for finding what's taking up the space.

Although it says that it's free for private use, there's been no update for a few years, so I doubt if anyone will be bothered - the last post in the forum asked if the app was dead - and that was asked in 2007!

It's best to extract it to a folder and run the .exe, rather than try to install it.

Treesize was my old go to and still very good (pro ) for determining file types etc.

I like to use spacesniffer too as its graphical display helps to show users exactly where stuff is hiding.

Gotta love Windows! Unlike Linux, there are hundreds of different applications all for the same thing.

Just got around to doing this now, and that has worked perfectly - nice and light too so I've been running it on various machines straight from the executable on the server... very good.

Consequently... my problems are now starting to be solved with the big bad deletehammer

Do any of these work on Windows 7?

I would want something to add itself to the details view.
