    Removing Windows7

    Hi there,
I have a slight problem, (nothing major but enough to annoy me) I had windows7 AND windowsXP installed onto my computer, I have no use for windows7 so I took the hdd out (was installed on another HDD) but whenever I boot up my computer I get the choice of choosing which OS I want to use. I want to boot windowsXP automatically and remove the option of Windows7 (which doesn’t work anyway)

Second problem is that I have my computer hooked up to my HD TV. and it uses the TV as a primary screen so I can’t even see which option I am choosing unless I have the TV on to see. So does anyone know how to make it turn my monitor on first (so I don’t have to turn on the TV?)

    Many Thanks.
    VM

    Re: Removing Windows7

I think you can do a repair from the XP install disc to fix the boot options problem. As for the display being on the TV, can you not just unplug it for a short while?

    Re: Removing Windows7

Yeah you need to get the XP disk out and repair your installation - you currently have the Windows 7 bootloader installed which you don't want, you want to overwrite it with the XP bootloader instead.

    boot.ini, ntdetect etc

    Re: Removing Windows7

If you load MSConfig in XP (go to Run, type in msconfig) and go to the Boot tab it might automatically detect a boot entry for an OS it can't find (Win 7) and ask if you want it removed.

Have you tried making the monitor primary? right click on the desktop -> properties -> settings
Then you should be able to click on the other monitor and hit the checkbox "make it primary" or something similar..

    Re: Removing Windows7

as for 7 appearing on boot menu you can install easybcd on windows xp.
go to manage bootloader and choose uninstall the vistabootloader. click write mbr
go to add/remove entries and make sure there is an entrie for windows xp. if there isnt simply add one then click save.
next time you boot it will boot straight to xp.

    Re: Removing Windows7

use msconfig and go to the boot tab. remove the line that gives win7 as an option from your boot.ini file. Its that easy.

Doesn't work like that, boot.ini only works for XP and earlier so that's only invoked after the Windows 7 bootloader loads the legacy OS option.

To reinstall the bootloader using the XP disk, do the following

Insert your XP disk and reboot the machine, then choose to boot from the CD drive. Use the "Recovery” option when the prompt appears. You might need your administrator password, but if there isn't one then just leave it blank.

    Then run:

    bootcfg /rebuild
    fixboot
    fixmbr

Should ensure that everything's good and ready to go.

If it doesn't give you the option to boot from CD you'll probably need to change the boot priority list in the BIOS to make sure the DVD drive is first.
