    Problem with defrag

I've just bought an SSD and it explicitly says that I shouldn't defragment it as it will affect performance etc... In fact, after installing the intel toolbox, it told me to switch the defragmenter off. That's all well and good, but I've got another hard drive that I do want to defragment. So will I now have to install a 3rd party defragger and is the windows version no longer available for use?

    Re: Problem with defrag

You should be able to select which drives you want to enable scheduled defrag on. Either that or just disable schedule altogether and run it on your HDD manually from time to time. What OS are you using?

    Re: Problem with defrag

I'm using Win 7. As far as I remember it, defrag occurs all the time when system load is low. That's why you don't need to manually defrag as one used to do in xp. Unless I got that wrong. I was hoping I could disable it for particular drives, but I couldn't see that option. Anyway, may just get a 3rd party one as they are supposed to be better. Any suggestions?

    Re: Problem with defrag

For the built-in defragger just go start, search for and open the defragmenter and ensure scheduled defragmentation isn't enabled for your SSD. Defrag doesn't occur all the time, only if it's scheduled or if you run it manually. If you want to defragment your HDD either ensure the schedule is enabled for it or run it manually from time to time.
