    MAPS vs Technet

They look to be almost the same. Does one over anything over the other?

    Re: MAPS vs Technet

For MAPS you need to be a Microsoft Partner, and most of the material is aimed at system builders and integrators. This is the only reason I would go for a MAPS subscription, you get a stack of CD/DVDs with integrator tools. I'm sure you can download it all anyway, but I think there is some good stuff in the packs to for that kind of thing.

I believe they have started veting members before offering the MAPS subscription, preventing people from registering just for the software.

I would go with a TechNet subscription, that's what I did. I used to have a MAPS subscription and it was actually a bit of a pain, everything is delivered on physical media. Some licenses came with 10 serial numbers, some with one for 10 uses and some with 2 for 5 uses each. A bit of a pain in the back side if you ask me.

With TechNet you just download the ISO you need, apply for the key and about 3 second later a new one appears. The site keeps track of the keys you have applied for. It's just a shame you can't tell it where the keys have been used of it they are spare. I keep a draft email in Outlook detailing which systems have which keys though.

Oh, and new software tends to be on TechNet before MAPS as they don't need to produce the disks and mail them out.

    Re: MAPS vs Technet

Thanks for that. I already have a MAPS subscription, and I agree having a load of CD/DVDs around is a bit of a PITA. Is there a limit on the number of keys I can have for each product on TechNet? I've got a bunch of VMs (I run a small consultancy), so being able to have a number of installed Windows servers etc is invaluable.

    Cheers...

Generally you get 10 licenses for each product, but not always.

    Re: MAPS vs Technet

I thought the main difference between Technet and MAPS is that MAPS can be used as internal software in a production environment, whereas Technet cannot.
