    SQL Server 2008 Troubles

Hi all, I'm currently poking around at SQL Server 2008 (running atop Windows Server 2008 Enterprise in a VM hosted by Virtual Box) to be used to provide the datastore for my Uni Final Year Project. I've got this rather bizzare issue however...

Using the supplied SQL Server Management Studio I connect to my database instance login and create a table for testing purposes under a database I created called tempdb. I populate the table with test data and it can be queried successfully. I ensure I have saved all changes.

If I restart the OS and connect back to my database instance the table I have created in the database tempdb has vanished.

I've got a feeling I need to commit my changes, but I can't figure out how to do this.

Does anyone have any pointers? I must be missing something obvious.

    Re: SQL Server 2008 Troubles

Found out the problem in the end...

I didnt create tempdb, its a default database that is created when a database instance is created.

As the name does kinda imply anything that is created is not saved

Quite what its point is I don't know, but after creating a new database and a table within that i'm up and running.

    Mods please close / delete

yep... calling a user db the same as a system db would be bad

lol, that would cause some issues I would think, SQL needs this for basic temporary tables, procedures etc. I suppose its a little like a swap file

Yeah, tempdb gets re-created every time the SQL Server service starts.
