Setting up a company (external) web site from scratch.

Where I work we need to setup a web site from scratch we currently have 3 public pages, now I would like to provide a framework with which others can then provide the content, rather than having to code up the pages myself or get someone in to write them. The system is going to be based on a linux system and I only wish to use open source software. In the future we may need video clip, downloads and a streaming radio system, blogs, forums etc, however are specials which can be embedded later without to many problems though thought suggestions are welcome. My thoughts are having an internal server where staff edit the site through the browser wiki style which is then published to the main site. I hope have no idea what software is worth looking at. Its seem much of the software allows you to wizard something up, however that structure is hard to change later.

Ah well that one sentence show me there is a lot for me to learn, the word I needed was CMS rather than "wiki like web based editing thing". I am guessing it means "Content Management System".

it certainly does. that can cover everything form the older looking phpnuke to things like wordpress ( which is more of a blogging system )

Re: Setting up a company (external) web site from scratch.

I've not used an open source CMS for donkey's years (can't even remember what the last one I used was), but from generally being around the web a lot over the last 3 - 4 years the most common names that crop up are Drupal (as MD has already suggested) and Joomla. If you're looking for something that should be relatively easy to set up but still pretty powerful in terms of what people can do with their "own" pages, I'd go for one of those two. Otherwise, a google for open source content management system would be a reasonable place to start
