    XP - Failure to pickup Hibernation point

    Typically i hibernation my computer ever evening before bed and reboot in the morning.

    This has always worked fairly reliably and although i alway aim to save documents and leave the computer in a state where loss wouldnt be an issue its only failed to pickup the hibination point about once every 8 weeks or so.

    However for the last few weeks its failed to pick up the hibination far more frequently, maybe only half the time.
    - It appears to read the hibination point (scrolls through the 'restoring windows' bar) but then both screens just go blank and it all hangs. So you have to hit the reset button and delete the restore point and boot from scratch. Which if nothing else takes about twice as long even through its fairly streamlined.

    Short of rebuilting the machine from the ground with a new install of XP does anyone have any thoughts on what might be causing this?

    Drivers are your usual culprit, or sometimes a misbehaving application but it's hard for them to really interfere with hibernation. See if any driver updates have been installed recently or if there's any new hardware attached.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    I would have thought it would be a good trial to turn off hibernation, (can be done from an Admin Cmd prompt, powercfg –h off), then delete the hiberfile sys. Re-enable hibernation and allow it to rebuild the hiberfile
