A little CSS Help Needed

Hey guys, I'm hopeful someone could help me out with this little frustration I'm having...

A friend gave me a concept he made, I'm putting it together for him...I have basic understanding of CSS - but the site isn't really complex.

Styling the menu is doing my head in though - I used Dreamweaver's spry plug-in to stick in a menu, I've got it styled just about right, but there one conflict I can't iron out (or too dumb enough to see).

If you hover over the main menu item of "photography" you get a drop down of sub menu items, which are in orange (for demo purposes). I want to be able to specify a background color/image when hovering over those, but at the moment it is pulling the blue gradient from the main main items.

When I change things, I end up changing other things I want to stay as they are.

Just want to get a hover specific to over the submenu items.


Any help would be greaaat!!

you need a declaration in your stylesheet for .submenu:hover setting the appropriate background, but be warned that spry uses javascript and so it might write over your settings with whatever it feels is most appropriate. There are ways to do this just in CSS that you'd be better off following if you've got the time to invest in learning it properly...

Hmm yes, I think I did try that, but as you say spry is replacing what I've done...I think I may be stuck with it.

I def would love to learn, but time isn't on my side I shall research.

Hmmm, if you tried that setting and it didn't work then spry is definitely doing its own thing instead of what you want. You could dig through the javascript, there's probably a way of sorting it out - I'll have a quick look later and see if I can spot anything obvious.

No worries anyway, it was nice to break off worrying about my own CSS problems to look at someone else's! One of these days I'll learn to say no when one of my parents asks me to do them a website

Actually, it's sorted now. I just tried what you suggested Jim - and it worked, so I have no idea what I had done before :\ Because I was trying something like that.

Good stuff Maybe spry isn't the devil-spawn I'd always considered it after all!
