Office Live Workspace (Beta) WIN!
Office Live Workspace (Beta)
It's not often I wax lyrical about a Microsoft product, but this just works well.
It's not new, but it's useful, especially as I had my lappy nicked recently & lost scads o work as the pendrive it was all backed up on was in the lappy bag, along with my graphics tablet & phone.
Still, I remembered I had signed up for this a while back & I've now started to use it. I can now sore my Word 2007 docs either locally, or more importantly online with automatic saves so my work's never lost. Like Google Docs I can share & collaborate with other users, but I can also view Powerpoint & Excel docs without having Office on the computer I'm using.
Like I said, it's nothing new, but it's new to me & being able to open & save directly from Word is just a lifesaver. Dunno why I didn't use it (or Google docs) before. Could have saved myself hours of work. :embarrassed:
Re: Office Live Workspace (Beta) WIN!
If google docs had done this and allowed you to tie in OpenOffice or Office 2007 I would of used their service. As you say though, the MS live office works off the bat, doesn't nag you all the time and works well. I tend to use it for less personal docs or docs working on with mates and its a breeze :) Thumbs up from me for now :)

Once you've created a space & workspaces by signing up with your Windows Live ID, you can use Office 2007 to open or save to your workspaces by using the Office Button.

Office will ask you to sign in & then it will open up a window with your docs & workspaces.
Re: Office Live Workspace (Beta) WIN!
Will give this a try. Have been using dropbox for the last few months to sync my documents between work and home, while having the ability to collaborate on doc's with other people. Removing the dependency on thumbdrives. I would be keen to find out what the limitations are in terms of document support, are we talking solely MS formats or has 3rd party formats been incorperated? Probably wishful thinking.
Re: Office Live Workspace (Beta) WIN!
I have saved various things to workspaces from mp3s & mpeg4s to mail settings, to zip and rar archives. I've not tried the collaboration settings on these tho.
You do get a free little website with it too :)
Re: Office Live Workspace (Beta) WIN!
Hi,
Just note that there have been a few reports of users 'loosing' their Workspace locally. (It appears that the Workspace option disappears).I guess that's what being in a 'Beta' program brings.
However it does just what it says on the tin - 99% of the time, and the various access facilities are great.
