I guess it depends if it is just video wrapped up in a flash file, or actual flash elements as well.

if you just search for "flv to avi" you get loads of results, I can't recommend any personally though.

I use WinFF for conversion and I think its a great little program. http://winff.org

Of course you could also just use VLC or Media Player Classic - HC as I beleive they shoud play FLVs (from YT for example) without any conversion.

I actually forgot about MPC-HC, that's what I would recommend as well then. It's a far better media player anyway. Uses less resources and is far faster.

WMP stutters with some videos on my netbook, MPC-HC doesn't and if keyboard friendly.

VLC player will play these off the bat and you won't need to convert them. I gather they are vids ripped off youtube etc?

Install Shark007 codec pack. No extras players, everything will play in WMP.

I downloaded VLC shortly after posting this and it seems great. I used to use MPC but, I can't remember why I didn't install it after changing to Windows 7.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look at them all.

Another vote for VLC or MPC-HC.
MPC works better on low end systems than VLC but VLC will play more out of the box

Re: Program to convert .FLV to something I can play easily.

I have used several different programs for this and they work very well.

The first one that I would recommend you try is Handbreak

You can also use VisualHub to do the same thing but it is not as quick and easy. However, it offers more functionality to do other tasks.

Another option is a shareware called iSkysoft video converter.

I have also heard that VLC player can do this for you.

I'd also recommend VLC as there are few formats it can't play. As well as being a very versatile media player it's also good for transcoding files, if a little unintuitive to use.
