    svchost.exe, just how many should you have?

    Been reading lately that people beleive viruses are now taking the guise of svchost.exe or indeed hijacking the item itself. I have a problem with my machine as far as I can tell but AVG finds nothing and I have 29 processes running at boot including 5 svchost.exe processes. One Local Service, one Network Service and three System.

    This is how the memory usage looks right now....

    svchost.exe SYSTEM 17,620k
    svchost.exe NETWORK SERVICE 1,884k
    svchost.exe LOCAL SERVICE 3,416k
    svchost.exe SYSTEM 3,292k
    svchost.exe SYSTEM 3,400k

    Is this normal or is there something wierd going on? Cos it don;t strike me as right somehow....

    well i've got 7 of them running atm...

    4 system, 2 local service and 1 network... one of them us using 18meg, the others are using from 1-4 meg...

    think its normal .. the worrying thing is that IE is using over 30meg of ram just to look at this one page on hexus...

    Here is an explanation of svchost from the creators http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;250320
    The Cow by Ogden Nash
    The cow is of the bovine ilk;
    One end is moo, the other, milk.
