    Try the following:

    1. Right click a picture in the excel file
    2. Go to 'format picture'
    3. Go the picture tab and press 'compress'
    4. Ensure 'all pictures in document' is selected
    5. Choose the resolution / DPI you require (I usually find screen is fine)
    6. Ensure the bottom two options are ticked and press OK

Maybe it doesn't appear on certain pictures - perhaps try it on several different ones?

    Edit: I'm using excel 2003.

    Re: Shrinking Excel Files

Guessing office07 is different, when you pick an image the top tab changes, then you goto format then theres a compress, have tried it and its not made any difference, still same file size.. :/

    Re: Shrinking Excel Files

I tihnk what its doing is just changing the DPI of the image, and keeping the original file as it was imported its original size, all images are then drag manipulated so that they are almost thumbnail size, as its keeping the original file size but drag resized thats the problem, I have mentioned to the design department before that pictures they take should be HQ for stuff they use and then thumbnailed for the website/documents but it would appear that they are still ignoring me..

If I remove all images the file drops from 121Mb to 6mb...

    Re: Shrinking Excel Files

    Hi,
    For '07, this is a reasonable 'how-to'

As I've found however, you have to save the file to another name to achieve the reductions , as otherwise the original file sizes are retained somehow.

    Re: Shrinking Excel Files

Have tried putting it in a compressed archive, or is that too obvious a suggestion?
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.
