+1 for TeamViewer, it's far easier to get working than RDP and you needn't install anything on either machine - the server doesn't ask to be installed and the client software has an optional run-only mode.

Hi,Flibb
On the Windows side, the easy way is to use one of the free VNC programs you can get on the net. I have used both TightVNC and UltraVNC with good results.
Macs have a VNC app built in that should be compatible with either program
Have Fun

the timeout issue for Teamviewer is only relevant if you leave it doing something.. ie walk away while it downloads an update. If you keep waggling the mouse remotely, it doesn't drop.

Good god - i knocked up a small program to do that for the missus if you're that desperate!
She has the same problem with her works VPN/remote connection timing out if the mouse doesn't move - solution = write a small program to shift the mouse around. 5 minute job, much happyness from wife. Result.

VNC is full of holes, can be exploited in 5 seconds! [I sure exploits exist for never versions]
I'd be sh*** in my pants using it over the internet. Run a scan on your WAN subnet and see how many you can get into. I used to have fun when I was younger lol
Same with RDP, totally unsecure. Avoid big time.

I like Teamviewer personally
Used to use LogMeIn but I find Teamviewer fits my needs better, and I like the no-install option.
Like many of you here, I'm a resident IT helpdesk for most people, and have been using LogMeIn Free for a while now. Serves me very well, and doesnt seem to have that much of a footprint. I might check out this TeamViewer though, seeing as its much used.
