Remote control of another PC
I am getting fed up with driving ages to a friends house to fix a pc problem that involves a few clicks, so I am looking for a remote control program to do it from my laptop at home instead.
now obviously there alot of trojan type programs but I am really looking for an official easy to use program so as not to cause too much trouble with firewalls etc it would need to work with full admin rights so I can unistall programs and install drivers etc.
any recommendations ?
thanks
Re: Remote control of another PC
Have you tried windows remote assistance? Found it to be excellent when sorting my parents rig recently, easy to get working, quick and simple.
Re: Remote control of another PC
i havent, will be ok working with admin being vista slave on XP? also what would the slave have to setup to allow me to remove work?
thanks :)
Re: Remote control of another PC
I use remote desktop too, used to use remote admin but found remote desktop sufficient for what I needed.
Re: Remote control of another PC
i admin all my rack servers with RDP, remote assistance is good for a quick fix as they only have to ask for help via MSN and your in.

[cough]
TEAMVIEWER[/cough]
so long as someone is on the end of the phone to activate it (doesnt even need installing permanently.. it can be run as a one off program) and type in the code.. you're away.
it is GODLIKE!

and it is FREE for private use :)
you can thank me later ;)

its under the activities tab when your chatting :)
yeh teamviewer is good but no better than remote assistance and nothing to install so long as msn is up to date.

Re: Remote control of another PC
LogMeIn Free or Teamviewer.
Teamview is less "permanent" than LogMeIn, so probably less privacy concerns by the host PC.
Re: Remote control of another PC
is it a timed free session as i get about 5 mins before it closes
Re: Remote control of another PC
tightVNC or most VNC programs would serve you well enough

Oh, I disagree - teamviewer is far better at NAT and is a darn sight more featured (I guess that's why they manage to sell it!). I've been in plenty of RA sessions where you have to 'try' connecting 2/3 times before it actually works - frustrating to say the least - or randomly get disconnects mid-session. It's pretty laborious too in that you have to explain to people they need to 'invite' you (multiple times if it fails) etc. Not fun when it's your technophobic father on the other end of the phone line :D

For local access yes, but if you need any sort of NAT/firewall negotiation then it's a very manual process (not to mention having the hazard of open ports). If you're really intend on using a multi-layered solution then use hamachi to build your virtual LAN and VNC to connect through it. Personally i use UltraVNC for local access and Teamviewer for everything else.
