local setting folder in xp

Looking to free up some space and found that this folder had over 6.5gb in file which i throught was a lot. This files all start with temp .dll .exe sql cab

why are they there what are they for

I would get rid of the temp files that are in there, the whole contents of the temp folder and the contents of the internet temps unless you think you need them, as they are temporary files as the name suggests. I would not touch the application data folder as that normally has vital settings and sometimes databases needed for installed programs such as Nortons and Outlook etc.
