Windows 7 - Recover file from emptied recyle bin

anyone know a good tool (freeware would be good) to recover files which have been deleted and the recycle bin then emptied? mostly videos & music files.

If you cant find it i can offer a pdf detailing recycle bin file recovery (how to do it manually, ie find and rebuild the files etc)

Sometimes its simply not possible. How much stuff have you deleted from the recycling bin since the file you initially deleted and want restored?

nothing else was deleted but the initial delete was several gigs worth. It's actually a friend of mine - I always say take backups but you know some people

Tell him to stop using the machine (the more he uses it, the more likely the freed file space will be over-written. Someone mentioned recuva, a google search will find more. www.runtime.org have a range of recovery products. I haven't used them myself, but I have used some of their other software, which worked as described.

I sent him the links but most files were tagged as unrecoverable!! Lesson learn't the hard way I guess!

A while ago my dad's PC got stolen. The police found it (I was amazed!), but it had been wiped clean with a new vista.

I was able to use GetData RecoverMyFiles to recover almost all of my dads important documents, photos, etc etc. http://www.recovermyfiles.com/

I think Recuva should be good too as stated above, (ive never used it, but love both CCleaner and Defraggler by the same people), but I needed a complete format recover, and RecoverMyFiles was excellent, plus their tech support was very helpful when we ran into problems.
