    Re: win 7 64/32 install

Hi, Long time lurker maybe 3rd or 4th time poster! I happen to work for the company this guy bought a system through so I thought I would chime in.

No one saw anyone coming! You may not know the audio production market but it's not the same as your office or even your cad machine. There are no 64bit drivers for some important audio hardware and software, DSP expansion cards, Solid State Logic and Soundscape haven't updated their driver line yet, TC electronics are still in beta for some and these are major highend products in our field. 32bit compatability mode has no place for low latency audio work either. A lot of our users are still dual booting with XP and Windows 7, it's an area where you don't jump to the latest OS until your ready.

Oh and price up a similar machine form DELL or HP and it comes in much more expensive, so just setting the record straight!

why not just stick with 32 bit if driver issues are genuine? why install both ...

    Re: win 7 64/32 install

32bit is for Legacy projects so that you can get running today, 64bit is to move over to in a smooth transition. We do systems with up to 48GB of RAM, the audio market is in a strange limbo state at the moment, we have guys who need the ability to run their old projects yet still need the ability to boot up and load a full orchestral virtual instrument which can have a template load of 24GB in to RAM as a starting point.

This is often peoples sole means of income TV scores often have a very short deadline and changes are to made in hours not days, some people compose on the bit side bounce stems and then mix on the 32bit side.

And at the end of the day it's something that is requested by the customer, not done as standard.

ah i see, thanks for coming back! you can see that from the perspective of 'experienced mainstream' that 64bit is standard and having both is redundant and would seem like a waste of money. looks like the AV industry needs to fully jump on board the 64 bit bandwagon
