vmware ubuntu desktop 10.04 32bit not working!

installs fine, keyboard works fine for setting up then at main splash login screen keyboard just doesn't work! anyone else have this problem?

I'm having the same problem, I tried reinstalling it on the console (where the keyboard works perfectly) but it doesn't work.

Can't help with VMWare but it is all working fine for me on Virtualbox 3.1.6(r59338).

I did an upgrade from the old LTS and it's working fine, but I need to build another test box this weekend so I'll see if I get the same problem (and if I can fix it I'll let you know). I assume this is a default install?

yeh completely default installation, server edition works perfectly but desktop doesn't for some reason. i'll look into it some more

ok, just done the install and restarted - all fine. What flavour of VMWare are you using? I'm using ESXi 4 (175625), virtual hardware version 7.

vmware player 3.0.1 so basic basic basic. tried twice already, will re-download just in case

xorg.conf problems. Basically, the X server is not recognising the virtual keyboard, so you'll need to do a little fiddling "under the hood".

When GRUB first loads, you should be able to add "nox" to the kernel line

kernel /kernel-x86_64-2.6.31-meep vga=791 root=/dev/sda3 nox

which should boot you to a console where you can edit your xorg. Sorry I can't really be of any more help, I'm not sure how Ubuntu handles input devices (e.g. does it use evdev or static devices?), but it definitely sounds like an xorg problem.
